We Came Across a Reservoir

Kristen M. Bryant December 22, 2017

Sidney, New York

These images of Sidney are somewhat out of my normal subject choice. First and foremost, people tend to cloud my images or remnants of them anyways. I guess the boats and the bridge here are remnants of humanity. Landscapes have rarely been what I'm shooting for. Even though it is the ground that I stand on and gravity that holds me to it, the ground that I am thankful to walk on is typically an afterthought when the viewfinder meets my eye. When I've just decided to capture a scene these are the things that occur to me, "Would you look at that view? I think I'd like to keep it." A little more than a tourist shot. And so I capture it just where I've stood, and to the best of me and my equipment's abilities, I capture it just how I've seen it.

Elizabeth and I were deep in conversation, tangled minds dancing dare I say it. We'd missed a turn and rode straight into the morning fog floating across this reservoir.  Mouth agape, the conversation fell flat, off the back of my head and my mind dove right into the scenery. I think restlessness arose. See my feet were in the car, one on the gas, the other waiting, but in our minds, I think our feet were imagining where we would like to be standing with cameras in hand.

We missed the fog covered reservoir as we were en route to a wedding, but the moment that we finally had the chance we detoured again to this place for a perfect sunset. Turning around windy roads, up and down hills, through wooded and narrow streets we found our way to an open expanse where water and land meet. Neatly placed with a city underneath, but wild with room to breath.
